Undertaker

A proven pattern for many years. The undertaker has a striking double butt, which may provoke the salmon to take when other patterns aren't working. The Peacock herl body also seems to add some bulkiness and iridescent magic to the fly. This fly is especially deadly on a darker, cloudy, gloomy day, but will often work regardless of the weather.

Originally born out of New Brunswick, it has since found a corner of Anglers fly boxes in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland & Labrador, and beyond.

Pattern materials

• Hook: Heavy Wire Salmon Iron
• Thread: 8/0 or 6/0 Uni Thread Black
• Tag: Small gold tinsel - or silver
• Butt: Uni Stretch, Chartreuse in the rear, pink or chinese red up front.
• Rib: Same as tag, small gold or silver tinsel
• Body: Peacock herl, tied in at the tip of the herl at the rear of the body, and wrapped forward, Reinforce with thread and the rib.
• Hackle: Pinch of black hackle, or wrap black hen hackle.
• Wing: Moose or black bear.
