Silver Tip fishing lure with feathered tail and metallic silver head

Black Silver Tip

An extraordinarily simple yet effective salmon fly. Especially deadly in the warm summer months in small sizes when nothing else seems to be working. Fish it straight up, or with a half hitch to give a 'V-wake'. I always keep one of two of these in the corner of my fly box, for when fishing gets tough - or any time.

Pattern materials

  • Thread: 8/0 uni thread
  • Hook: Size 8-12 salmon iron
  • Tip: Flat silver mylar
  • Rib (optional): Oval tinsel
  • Body: Black floss or wool body
  • Hackle (optional): black hackle or schlappen.
